According to our records, you currently have one or more active ULTRA GSM devices that will no longer be supported after 31st December 2023 as a result of the upcoming decommissioning of 2G and 3G network services, as previously communicated in our external bulletin, dated 06/07/2023.
In accordance with General Notice No 1271 of 2022 issued by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies Government, all mobile network providers are required to decommission legacy 2G network services by 31 March 2024, and 3G network services by 31 December 2024.
2G and 3G technologies, considered outdated, currently occupy valuable radio frequency spectrum that could be utilised for more efficient and faster connectivity. By discontinuing these technologies, operators will be able to provide better and more reliable coverage across the country. Additionally, this transition is expected to lead to potential reductions in mobile data prices in the long run.
As a result, CENTURION will no longer be able to support the following 2G and 3G GSM devices after 31 December 2023:
- MyGSM 2x2
- MyGSM 8x8
- G-Switch-22
- G-Switch-22 EVO
- G-ULTRA 2G
- G-ULTRA 3G
- G-SPEAK Classic
- G-SPEAK Classic Plus
- G-SPEAK Ultra 2G
- G-SPEAK Ultra 3G
We have already observed degradation of both 2G and 3G network services countrywide. Therefore, to ensure reliable and stable network connections, we strongly encourage users of the above-mentioned GSM solutions to upgrade to 4G-enabled devices at your earliest convenience.
Upgrading to a 4G device also offers the added benefit of improved reliability during periods of loadshedding. Networks have announced substantial investments in backup power for enhanced service continuity.
For your convenience, the G-SPEAK 4G Controller is available without the gate station, allowing you to upgrade only this component and save on additional costs. Our world-class technical support team is available to assist with cloning old device settings to a new unit and facilitating the transfer of tokens.
